The running addiction

If you're not a runner you may not understand what the addiction is.  If you are not a runner you do not understand why people run for 26.2 miles, for 6 straight hours.  If you are not a runner you don't know what it is like to push through "the wall". Running is an addiction.

One percent of the population has ever run a marathon.  The first marathon runner died shortly immediately following the run.  So why do people run Marathons, Half-Marathons and Ultra runners? They run because they can. People run to make themselves unique.  They run Marathons because it is the ultimate challenge after months of dedicated training.  They run because running is addictive.  The "runners high" is better than any drug.

With over 40,000 people completely the Chicago and New York Marathons.   More and more marathons are forming across the United States and the world. There are now marathon series' that provide medals for those runners who complete the series.  The Rock and Roll Marathon is a great example providing a medal based on the number of Marathon's and Half Marathons completed across the country.  Disney has the Coast to Coast Medal for those that complete a Half Marathon in Disney World and in Disneyland.  As marathoning becomes a destination for girls weekends these same type of series will be more common.  More and more runners will become addicted to the "Bling" the medals.

All of this will continue to enable the running addiction.
